Hello!

Parents/Guardians

Can you believe it is June already? It is our last month together in 3 Costello and I am finding it to be very bitter sweet. On the one hand  I am excited for the kids being officially declared 4TH Graders and begin their much needed vacation (we really worked them hard). On the other hand I really am going to miss working with them! They are a great bunch of kids and you should be very proud of all that they accomplished this year. Take the time to celebrate their achievements!  I know that I am proud of all of my students and we celebrate our successes every day.
On June 7th we will be going on an end of the year field trip. 3 Patterson and 3 Costello will be travelling to the bowling alley to play a few strings. Following bowling, we will travel to Dairy Queen for lunch and a frozen treat. See the field trip permission slip for more details.
We have a lot going on this month and as always, if you ever need any clarification please feel free to call me at the school at 847-6202, by email at ashley.daley@nbed.nb.ca, or through a written note placed in your child’s agenda.

Language Arts
In Language Arts, reading continues with an emphasis on good reading comprehension strategies. Information Reports will be our focus this month. Students will learn that a good information report presents information  that classifies living or non-living things. A descriptive report has a title, begins with a general statement about the living or non-living thing, gives a description (What do they look like? Where are they found? How do they behave?)  and ends with an evaluation.
We have our final performances of Reader’s Theatre coming up. Students will be performing the following: A Bad Case of Stripes, Listen Buddy!, The Principal’s New Clothes, and Dog Breath. We always enjoy these performances and I will be posting parts of them on our website so stay tuned!

Math Outcomes

As you are all aware Provincial Assessments took place from May 24-31. The kids worked very hard and followed directions well. We did A LOT of review the weeks before and I know you worked with the kids at home. Thank you!
As we end the school year, we will continue with multiplication and division. We will model multiplication and division up to 5x5, find strategies to multiply and divide up to 5x5 and pose and solve story problems involving multiplication and division.
We will be having a Multiplication and division test on Tuesday June 12th. As always I will be offering extra help every lunch recess until the test.

Social Studies/Science/Health/Art
In Social Studies we will be starting a unit on the Government of New Brunswick. Students will have a mini quiz on Friday June 8th.
In Science we have been working on a unit called Watch it Grow. We are currently growing our own little garden and watching it grow!
Health class has been very interesting. We have been discussing the influence of media literacy on healthy behaviors. We have discussed/screened commercials and print ads that target the Grade 3 age group and how they try  to influence our eating behaviors.
Art is a favorite class for all the kids. We have been sketching, using water colours and sculpting.
