"Math Brain Breaks"

The kids had a busy week with assessments. We wrote in the morning but we were finding it difficult to get our brains back into work mode in the afternoon-the kids were so tired! So we decided to have a quick 10 minute "Math Brain Break" in order to "sharpen the saw" for Language Arts time.
During this time I did a few quick sketching lessons with the kids. We also had a 10 minute "sculpting" class although many of the kids would have liked to have gone on longer if I had let them! This seemed to calm and refocus them for work time.
If you ever get stuck with an indoor day at home this summer (and let's face it we live in N.B. so we are bound to get a few) or you just want to refocus the kiddos check out this link-
www.janbrett.com. Jan Brett is a wonderful author and illustrator. She has written one of my personal favorites The Mitten. If you go into videos she gives step by step instructions for sketching animals.
Below you will find a few of our "sculptures" from our 10 minute art class on Tuesday and two sketching masterpieces that students did to recharge on Wednesday and Thursday.
